Book of the Week
To break a covenant
By Alison Ames
To break a covenant is a spinetingling supernatural horror that will have you on the edge of your seat!
Clem, Nina, and Lisey are best friends living in the shadow of a disaster. Moon Basin Mine exploded years ago, killing sixteen miners, and starting an underground fire that still rages today. The original town is abandoned due to the constant falling ash, and has been rebuilt just a few miles away.
They meet Piper, whose father has recently arrived to perform safety checks inside the mine. The more time he spends in the mine, the stranger his behaviour becomes, until one day, he doesn’t come out. The girls enter the mine to look for him, but soon realise that the mine has a life of its own, and they begin experiencing what many of Moon Basin’s residents have suffered from ever since the explosion – hearing voices, having nightmares, sleepwalking, and hallucinating. Clem and her friends are out of their depth, but are determined to break free of the mine, which it seems, will do anything to pull them back in…
To break a covenant is a tightly written, action-packed thriller suitable for Year 7’s and up. It is very atmospheric and tense, full of ghost-hunting and omens, and is a great story to read for Halloween!
