Stage 2

Term 4 is well and truly underway, and we’ve had a fantastic, busy start to the term! We want to extend a huge congratulations to our Stage 2 students for their incredible artwork showcased at the Creative Streets Festival earlier this term. Their focus and hard work really paid off, resulting in truly stunning pieces. We’re so proud of how beautifully they represented Ben Venue in such a positive way. We’re excited to continue working with all our students this term, fostering a supportive, inclusive environment and striving for excellence in everything we do.

English

In English, we’re wrapping up our unit on narrative writing and will soon start focusing on recount writing. This term, we’ll be learning to write factual and historical recounts, true stories told in a clear and engaging way. Students will practise organising information, using descriptive language, and exploring important events from the past. This unit will should help build their storytelling skills while encouraging them to think about history and why these events are important. It promises to be a fun and engaging term of learning!

Mathematics

Over the next few weeks, students will be learning about 2D shapes in their maths lessons. They’ll explore the names and features of different shapes, such as triangles, rectangles, squares, and circles. Students will learn how to calculate the area (how much space is inside a shape) using simple strategies and tools. Another focus will be finding lines of symmetry in shapes. A line of symmetry is an imaginary line where you can fold a shape and its two halves match exactly. Students will be identifying these lines and seeing how shapes are the same on both sides.

PDH

This term, students will learn important water safety skills to help keep themselves and others safe around water. They will explore how to identify potential water hazards, understand safe behaviours near pools, beaches, and other bodies of water, and recognise the importance of following safety rules.
