Congratulations to all students who were involved in the NE Sings! concert over the weekend. It was fantastic to see so many students involved and so many families sharing in the experience.

Time for Music

Recently, the NSW Department of Education announced its 10 year plan for music education in NSW Public Schools - Time for Music.

Time for Music sets out a commitment to ensuring every child can access diverse musical experiences within a vibrant, equitable and sustainable music education system. The plan will support this commitment by:

  • Considering diverse school contexts
  • Developing teachers’ music teaching skills
  • Providing a clear framework for music education
  • Expanding co-curricular music opportunities
  • Delivering 20 hours of music instruction each year
  • Exploring credentials for music educators
  • Expanding music teacher mentoring programs
  • Creating a music education catalogue

At Ben Venue, we have a strong tradition of specialist music education. We proudly offer a comprehensive music program with very student in every class receiving 40 minutes of specialist music instruction per week. BVPS has an orchestra, stage choirs and we offer large-scale performance and skill development experiences for students such as the Festival of Choral Music and Pulse Alive.

The announcement from the NSW Department of Education provides an exciting opportunity for us to review and further develop our program to ensure our students experience the well-researched academic, social and wellbeing benefits a quality music program provides.
