Welcome to Week 4Β
What a fantastic time we had last week when students dressed as teachers and teachers dressed as students! There were plenty of laughs, creative outfits and lots of fun throughout the day. We are still not sure who enjoyed themselves more - the students or the teachers! It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved and enjoying this special day to raise money for the school wellbeing programs.

A friendly reminder that school broad brimmed hats must be worn correctly, with the brim down and not rolled up, to ensure students are adequately protected from the sun. Students wearing hats that are not sun safe have been reminded that they must play in shaded areas. We appreciate your support in reinforcing this important sun safety message at home. If your child requires a new school broad brimmed hat, these are available from the school office for $15.
Our InitiaLit groups continue to work hard on developing their reading and spelling skills. Spelling remains a key focus, with students participating in more hands-on activities and games to consolidate their learning. In writing, students have been exploring narrative writing using the Seven Steps of Writing Success. They have been learning how to hook their readers with 'sizzling starts', develop their stories through backfill, and build tension using the 'pebble, rock and boulder' approach before creating exciting endings. We have been impressed by the creativity, imagination and wonderful ideas students are bringing to their stories. There are certainly some budding authors in Stage 1!
Our mathematics groups continue to explore a range of concepts through explicit teaching, hands-on activities, games and problem-solving tasks. Some groups are learning about data, including collecting, organising and interpreting information, while others are developing their understanding of time and reading clocks. Other groups are exploring position, using mathematical language to describe locations and directions. It has been wonderful to see students building their confidence, explaining their thinking and applying their mathematical skills in different ways.
