Cyber Safety and Digital Wellbeing

Cyber safety continues to be an important focus within our STEAM program, with many lessons beginning with a short story to spark meaningful discussion and reflection.

Following on from last edition’s spotlight on Chicken Clicking, students have continued exploring how our online choices can have real-world consequences.

This week, Ashleigh shares her thoughts on the book #Goldilocks by Jeanne Willis.

Ashleigh’s Book Review

What is the book about?

It’s a remake of the classic story, Goldilocks, but she has a device and she posts her breaking into the bear's house, breaking the chair and sleeping in the baby bear’s bed. The police use the location and her posts to track her down. She then has to spend all summer working at the bear’s house, fixing chairs and doing chores. Even though she did that and paid the price for her actions, people never forgot the bad thing that she did.

What is the cyber safety message?

There are a few messages in this book;

1. Think before you post,

2. Digital footprint.

Why is this important?

It's important for students to learn this because if they don't then they’ll think it's ok to post anything online with no consequences. They also need to know that people remember what they see about you online so you should always try to be good and kind to others.

The preps rounded out the term by completing their Inform & Empower online incursion that focussed on making clever screen time choices, such as identifying appropriate times and places to use devices and how to take care of devices and strategies for sharing. They joined in with The Silly Moose song which you may like to listen to at home - The Silly Moose Youtube Link
