Prep News

What a fantastic start to Term 1 it has been in Prep! 

 

The children have been settling in beautifully, getting to know their new routines, building friendships, and growing in confidence each day. It has been wonderful to see them embrace their new learning environment with such enthusiasm.

 

As part of our Unit of Inquiry, we have been exploring the transdisciplinary theme Who We Are. Our Central Idea is “Appreciating people’s strengths and interests enhances relationships.” The children have been learning about what makes each of us unique and how we can celebrate one another’s strengths to build positive and caring connections in our classroom.

 

In Phonics, we have been working hard to learn all of our letter sounds. The students are building confidence in recognising and using these sounds when reading and writing, which is an exciting step in their literacy journey.

 

During Writers Workshop, we have been completing our illustration unit. The children have loved expressing their ideas through detailed drawings, and we are now beginning to add words to our books. It has been wonderful to see their creativity grow as they start to see themselves as real authors and illustrators.

 

In Readers Workshop, we have been learning to read the pictures and use our “storyteller voice” to bring stories to life. The children are becoming more expressive and confident when sharing texts. We are also very proud of our growing reading stamina, which has now reached 15 minutes!

 

In Mathematics, we have been exploring counting collections and learning to identify numerals. The students have enjoyed hands-on experiences that help them make connections between numbers and quantities. A highlight has been creating our own counting books, which allowed the children to showcase their understanding in a fun and meaningful way.

 

It has been a busy and engaging start to the year, filled with creativity, curiosity, and new friendships. 

 

We look forward to continuing to build on these skills next Term.
