Dear parents/carers,

It has been wonderful to see our Middle Sub School students engaging positively in social play. Students have been enjoying group games such as Duck, Duck, Goose and What’s the Time, Mr Wolf? These games help build important skills including turn-taking, waiting, following rules, managing emotions, and working cooperatively with others.

Our Playground Buddies Program, created by our Occupational Therapist Kevin, continues to support students to practise social skills in a structured and supportive way. Last week’s focus was “Making Teamwork Work.” Student leaders from different age groups came together to play collaboratively. During this session, we supported skills such as teamwork, helpfulness, distress tolerance, and respectful communication.

How you can support play at home:•

Play simple turn-taking games as a family• Practise winning and losing appropriately• Encourage your child to ask for help or invite others to play• Model calm responses when things don’t go as planned

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students build confidence, friendships, and independence.

Kind regards,

Stefania

Room 12

The first six weeks of term 1 have been a wonderful time for all of us in room 12. We are beginning to feel confident and familiar with our weekly routine and have enjoyed getting to know each other. Amongst our favourite activities is Art, Morning Circle, spending time in playground 6, doing puzzles and playing social games such as Knots & Crosses.

Our curriculum studies have included Living Skills, Music, Science and Physical Education. We have enjoyed learning how to make our bed, sandwiches and sensory sand.
