Performing Arts - Term update
What a busy and exciting term it has been in Performing Arts!
This term, the whole school has been involved in our Battle of the Decades. Each week, we explored a different decade from the 1950s through to the 2020s, listened to two songs that represented that era, and voted for our favourite. Students eagerly participated each week, sharing their opinions and cheering on their top picks.
The semi-finals featured Hound Dog by Elvis Presley versus September by Earth, Wind & Fire, and I Want It That Way by the Backstreet Boys versus Sunroof by Nicky Youre and Dazy. The grand final came down to September and Sunroof. Want to know which song was crowned the winner? You'll have to ask your student!
Our Year 5–6 students have been busy creating a class band, learning to play Viva La Vida by Coldplay. Students took responsibility for different musical parts, which came together in harmony to create the song. It was incredibly rewarding to hear everyone listening to one another, playing in time, and bringing the music to life.
The Year 3–4 students explored the song Whack Bang Crash. They began with speaking and body percussion, created a canon, and then performed it using non-melodic percussion instruments such as drums, triangles, wood blocks, and shakers. They then learned the melody, with their final challenge being to perform it on xylophones and marimbas.
Our Foundation–Year 2 students focused on storytelling through music. They learned about Vivaldi's Autumn before performing another autumn-themed piece on instruments. Students also read We're Going on a Bear Hunt and created soundscapes to match each setting in the story, first using their voices and then selecting instruments to represent the different environments.
It has been a massive term filled with engagement, excitement, learning, and fun in Performing Arts. We have had a ball and are so proud of everything our students have achieved!
