Student Support Group (SSG) Meetings – Working Together to Support Your Child

This term, we will be holding our Student Support Group (SSG) meetings for all students. These meetings are an important part of our commitment to supporting each child's learning, wellbeing and individual progress.

Student Support Groups bring together families, teachers and relevant support staff to review progress, celebrate achievements and plan the next steps for learning. They provide an opportunity to discuss your child's Individual Education Plan (IEP), including their goals, strategies and the supports that will help them continue to succeed.

This term's SSG meetings are particularly important following the Australian Education Union (AEU) industrial action during Semester 1. While teachers completed student assessments and reported progress against IEP goals, written report comments may not have been included in your child's Semester 1 report. The SSG meeting will provide dedicated time for teachers to share a comprehensive overview of your child's learning, achievements and progress, and for families to ask questions and discuss future learning priorities.

The strength of SSG meetings lies in the partnership between home and school. Families know their child best, and your insights, experiences and aspirations are invaluable in developing meaningful and achievable goals. By working collaboratively, we can ensure consistency between school and home, leading to the best possible outcomes for every student.

During the meeting we will:

• Review progress towards your child's current IEP goals.
• Celebrate strengths, achievements and growth.
• Discuss areas for ongoing development.
• Develop new learning goals and strategies for the coming semester.
• Answer any questions you may have about your child's learning or wellbeing.

We encourage families to think about any questions or information they would like to discuss before the meeting so we can make the most of our time together.

SSG meetings will be held from Monday 27 July to Thursday 13 August. Booking information will be sent home to all families, with appointments to be made through the XUNO Parent Portal.

We value the strong partnerships we have with our families and look forward to meeting with you to celebrate your child's progress and plan for another successful semester.

EXTENDED PERIOD OF ABSENCE APPLICATION FORM

As part of JSA's Attendance Policy, we formalise parent/carer requests for students seeking approval for Extended Absence of 5 or more days (previously 3 days or more).

If you wish to express interest or intentions for your child to be away for 5 or more days, please ensure to complete the 'Extended period of absence application form' below. 

All applications for extended absences will be reviewed by the Sub School Leader and Principal. Parent/Carers will be notified via email after consideration of application.

At Jacana school for Autism, every student has the right to feel safe, respected and cared for. Victoria's Child Safe Standrads are 11 rules that all schools must follow. They guide how we work, who we hire, how we listen to students and families and how we respond when something goes wrong.
