It's Gold, Gold, Gold!!!!
Our very modest (and incredibly laid back) Vernal Mauigoa today became St Anne's College first Hume District Athletics gold medallist. Vernal is now eligible to represent Hume and St Anne's College at the upcoming Athletics State Championships. Twelve months ago, Vernal was one of the highest seeded competitors at Hume and hoped to do well. Things didn't go to plan and he was disappointed with his result. On Thursday, as the highest seeded thrower, he realised a goal that he has been wrestling with for the last year.
Throwing 11m in Albury, Vernal stepped outside his 'comfort zone', bolstering his own self-confidence in doing so, while inviting other students to do the same by his exemplary example.
Stating that his superlative achievement has invigorated a desire to further his training, it is remarkable to note that Vernal only began throwing shot put last year when he asked the college's Sports Co-orindator, Stephen Kealy for a shot put.
With a previous best throw of 12.71m, Vernal was nonetheless proud as punch with his gold medal win and was rewarded at home by an elated family who celebrated with a KFC dinner. Amongst the family celebration was Vernal's bodybuilding brother- in- law, who has been instrumental in assisting the star shot putter to train over the last year.
While St Anne's College had nine students qualify for the Hume District Athletics, the following five athletes are to be congratulated for competing on the day: Darcy Brewer, Archer Hogan, Oliver Mazzella, Jaxan McDonald, Ravjot Singh-Gill.
Auskick for Girls
On Sunday, September 24, eight St Anne's College students and future students ran out for a half time match at the GVL Grand Final, as part of the Auskick Girls program. St Anne's College had a big representation in this program and did the school proud with their commitment and sportsmanship.
If you're child is interested in joining in please see the brochures below.
