Meet our Year 5 teachers

Miss Kathleen Gannon
(5A Teacher and Team Leader)
Hello! I am Miss Gannon and this year I am teaching Year 5s.
When I am not at school, you can usually find me playing footy with the West Footscray Roosters. We had a pretty good season this year and had lots of fun. Unfortunately, I hurt my knee in the second last round and need to have surgery to repair my ACL and a year off to recover, so sadly there won't be any footy for me in 2026.
My parents have a dairy farm in Gippsland and I love to going down to help with jobs. When I am at the farm, I get to drive the tractor, help feed the calves and ride around on the motor bike!
I am VERY excited for my wedding in November which will be at my parents' farm. I have been busy planning and organizing everything for the day and I am looking forward to celebrating with my family and friends. Only 64 days to go!
- What I'm reading right now: American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins
- Favourite sport: Football and Gymnastics
- My favourite subject (when I was at school): Maths
- How long I've taught at PMPS: 4 years.
Mr Jac
(5B Teacher)
I've absolutely loved teaching Year 5 for my second year in a row. Since joining PMPS in 2020 my roles have been as a Year 5 and 6 teacher. I relish teaching Maths and have been savouring all the new novels we've read as a class this year!
Outside of the classroom, I love walking my dog Bowie with my fiancé, going to the movies, watching the footy (go Cats!) and the NBA (go Brooklyn Nets!), travelling to many different beaches, reading, cooking and heaps more!
- What I'm reading right now: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
- Favourite sport: Aussie Rules and basketball
- My favourite subject (when I was at school): PE and Maths
- How long I've taught at PMPS: 6 years.
Miss Emily
(5C Teacher)
I have been at Port Melbourne for a few years now. I grew up in Horsham and moved to Melbourne to become a teacher, and have chosen to stay because I absolutely love it here.
Last year Miss Gannon (Ganno) recruited me to the West Footscray Bokkers, where I play football with a few of the other PMPS teachers (Miss Bo and Miss Janelle). I am a proud Pies supporter in the AFL and a proud Kangaroos supporter in the AFLW. In my spare time I love to go camping, eat delicious food and have recently joined up to BodyFit for the off season. I am looking forward to the weather warming up so I can spend some more time at the beach too.
- What I'm reading right now: Throne of Glass Series (Book 4/9) by Sarah J. Maas
- Favourite sport: AFL Footy
- My favourite subject (when I was at school): English
- How long I've taught at PMPS: 3 years.
Mr Heath
(5D Teacher)
Hello everybody, I'm Mr Heath and I've been lucky enough to be teaching here at PMPS for the past 3 years. I've been loving my time here and have been lucky enough to work with some amazing students and meeting the incredible families that are part of this great community.
Outside of school, my almost 2 year old son Lenny takes up plenty of my time! My fiancé Georgie and I are always on our toes running around after him. I love keeping fit, and was able to complete the Ballarat Marathon earlier this year, which was a great challenge! I also love getting away outdoors in our campervan, and spending time growing veggies in my garden, which is why you're likely to run into me at my favourite store, Bunnings!
- What I'm reading right now: Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse
- Favourite sport: AFL, but I love soccer too!
- My favourite subject (when I was at school): Art in primary school, PE in high school
- How long I've taught at PMPS: I worked as a Teacher's Aide in 2022, and became part of the teaching staff in 2023.
