CELEBRATING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE@CSPS
Maths
Students have been working incredibly hard on place value, building strong understanding of number concepts. We have been using hands-on materials and manipulatives to support learning and make abstract concepts more concrete.
Our learning has also included applied links to:
Shapes
Data
Mass
Time
It has been wonderful to see students confidently explaining their thinking and using materials to justify their answers.

Literacy
In Literacy, our learning has been connected to our class novel, The Worst Years of My Life. Students have thoroughly enjoyed engaging with the characters and storyline.
Our focus skills have included:
Questioning
Summarising
Making text-to-self, text-to-text and text-to-world connections
Students have been developing deeper comprehension skills and showing great growth in their ability to discuss and analyse what they read.

Writing
Students have been highly engaged in both narrative and persuasive writing. It has been fantastic to see their creativity and confidence growing each week.
We have been explicitly learning and practising the skills needed to be successful writers, including:
Generating and organising ideas
Writing compound sentences
Using similes
Exploring onomatopoeia
Incorporating emotive language
Choosing strong adjectives
Students are beginning to thoughtfully apply these techniques to make their writing more detailed, engaging and powerful.
Core Knowledge
In Core Knowledge, students have been learning about rules and laws and why they are important in keeping communities safe and fair.
We recently went on our first mini excursion around our local community in Botanic Ridge. Students identified and discussed examples of laws and rules in action, helping them connect classroom learning to the real world. They represented our school beautifully and should be very proud of themselves!

Reading at Home
We are so pleased to see so many students enthusiastic about reading at home. Your support truly makes a difference. We are celebrating reading milestones with certificates, and it has been fantastic to recognise students for their commitment.
Readers are still being checked every day, so please continue to support your child by encouraging regular reading and signing their reading diaries. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting our Year 3/4 learners!
