Child Safe Standards
- We Care.
At St John's, the safety and wellbeing of every child is at the centre of all we do. As part of our commitment to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment, we will be sharing one of the Victorian Child Safe Standards in each newsletter.
The Child Safe Standards are a set of eleven standards that help schools create a culture where children are safe, respected and empowered, and where their wellbeing is actively protected.
Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
This standard recognises that children have the right to be heard and to play an active role in decisions that affect them. It encourages schools to create environments where students feel safe to speak up, share their ideas, seek help and know that their concerns will be listened to and acted upon.
At St John's, we work hard to ensure every child feels safe, valued and respected. Students are taught about their rights and are encouraged to speak up if they have concerns or need support.
Through our wellbeing programs, classroom discussions and positive relationships with staff, students develop the confidence and skills to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas. We provide opportunities for student voice through leadership roles, class meetings and feedback opportunities, ensuring students have meaningful input into school life.
Our staff are committed to listening carefully to students and responding with care, respect and professionalism. We also ensure students know who they can turn to for help and how to raise concerns in a safe and supportive way.
Guided by our Catholic values, we recognise the dignity of every child and strive to create a school community where every student feels heard, respected and empowered.

Leadership is key to maintaining these standards. If you ever have questions or concerns regarding child safety, please feel free to reach out to our dedicated Child Safety Officers:
Ms Alison Dean, Ms Elizabeth Whiting and Ms Brooke Davis
Together, we continue to build a culture where every child can learn, grow and feel safe. Listed below is information from MACS in regards to Child Safety Standard 1 and 2.
