At our school, teachers regularly take part in a process called writing moderation. This is an important part of ensuring every child receives consistent, high-quality teaching and feedback in writing.
What is writing moderation?
Writing moderation is when teachers come together to look at samples of student writing across different year levels. They discuss and compare the work using agreed criteria from the Victorian Curriculum, to ensure they are making consistent and accurate judgements about student progress.

Why do we do it?
Moderation helps teachers to:
Reflect on and improve teaching practices
How does this benefit your child?
Through this process, teachers are better able to:
Support every student to continue improving in their writing
Writing moderation is a valuable way we work together as educators to support all students in becoming confident and capable writers.
If you have any questions about your child’s writing progress, please don’t hesitate to contact their classroom teacher.
At the Carlton Game - by Isaac 5L
The exciting thing that happened during camp week was the Carlton game on Saturday night. My uncle asked me if I wanted to go with him. I said 'Yes!"
We went and I was excited! When we got to our seats the game started with the Cartlton theme song as the players ran through the banner. The 1st quarter was fair but ended with Carlton down by ten points. The second quarter started and I could tell Carlton were really trying hard by it ended with them still down by ten points. "Oh, no not again." I mumbled in a frustrated voice. My legs were shaking. The fourth quarter started and the blues kicked two goals straight away. I couldn't believe it, maybe we had a chance. The Bulldogs had a couple of good goals but in the end Carlton won by thirty-four points!
My camp snapshot of the new Parliament House - by Lucas 5L
Day one of the camp kicked off with a massive highlight: the new Parliament House! Approaching the building, its humongous, brilliant white exterior completely blew me away. Security felt like entering a top-secret fortress, raising the excitement for what lay ahead. Once inside, we stepped into a grand world of gleaming white marble.
Our awesome tour guide, Jeremey, led us straight into a whirlwind tour of the powerhouse chambers- the Senate and the House of Representatives. After walking past historic portraits of past leaders and discovering a sleek black marble water fountain, we got a huge surprise. We spotted our very own federal MP for JagaJaga, Kate Thwaites!
We actually got to meet her and chat about her massive responsibilities, like voting on new laws and speaking up for everyone in our local community. To top it all off, we wrapped up the epic day with refreshing gelato and a mind-blowing, giant Lego replica of the entire building. It was absolutely wild - you seriously had to be there!
