Junior Years Report
Year 9 City Camp
Our Year 9 City Camp took place during Week 6, with 54 students embracing the opportunity to ‘Discover Melbourne’. Here, a series of engaging activities, including visits to Melbourne Aquarium, Old Melbourne Gaol, Melbourne Cricket Ground / National Sports Museum, Melbourne Skydeck, Queen Victoria Market, as well as Ice Skating, Laser Tag and Ten Pin Bowling at Docklands enabled students to connect with the urban landscape, while also building social and working relationships with peers and staff. Based at Christian Youth Camps (CYC) located on Collins Street in the heart of Melbourne’s Central Business District, students quickly learnt about city-navigation and public transport etiquette, with several opportunities to travel via train, bus and tram during this three-day adventure.
Feedback from students, both during and since returning from this experience, has been super positive, and we’ve already secured booking dates for 2027. Thankyou to all students, families and staff for supporting our Year 9 City Camp. Below are a few quotes from students when asked to describe their camp highlight(s) and/or a significant moment…
‘During our tour of Sealife Aquarium, we got to touch starfish and an old shark egg. Some other animals we saw were penguins, jelly fish, stingrays, seahorses, sharks, turtles and a crocodile, as well as many different types of fish.’
‘Upon entering Melbourne Skydeck, we experienced a virtual-reality tour of Victoria, including prominent landmarks in and around Melbourne. One of my favorite parts of this experience was the roller-coaster ride - when the seat shook, it felt as though we were really moving! A fast lift ride up to Floor 88 provided 360 degree views and ‘The Edge Experience’ was another major highlight, albeit quite scary when looking through the glass floor to the streets below!’
‘Our guided tour of Melbourne Cricket Ground provided an opportunity to view the change-rooms, members lounge, corporate boxes, commentator / media conference areas, and we even ventured down to the boundary line to step foot on the sacred tuff and outfield. The National Sports Museum was filled with significant memorabilia from a range of sports, while the Game On section allowed students to engage with interactive sporting activities.’
‘Old Melbourne Gaol had an eerie vibe, which was a bit unsettling at first. Clearly some gut-wrenching stuff occurred behind those walls, but it was interesting to hear from a guide about several escape attempts and some significant prisoners, such as Ned Kelly.’
‘Our first night activity included an interactive arcade experience, as well as laser tag and ten pin bowling, which was really good fun! Likewise, our ice-skating lesson was a major highlight.’
‘All in all, the city camp was a great experience, and everyone had heaps of fun!’
Year 7 Netball
On the Student Free day, eight year 7 girls gave up their day off to represent LSC at the Netball Interschool Competition. All girls showed our school values of commitment and respect to the highest level.
They were successful in their first two games which led them to the semi-final. In this game, the girls showed true grit against tough competition.
After playing 3 full games, with only one player on the bench, the girls then encouraged the two teams who played off in the grand final.
Congratulations to all players, it was a fantastic day of netball, teamwork and fun.
