Sports Update

Senior Cricket Academy
Our Senior Cricket Academy has faced some challenges this term due to inconsistent weather conditions, resulting in a greater number of indoor training sessions.
A key focus throughout the term has been improving our strength and conditioning while continuing to refine our cricket skills in an indoor environment.
After several weeks of dedicated weight training and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions, students were ready for a well-earned recovery experience. We were fortunate to visit a local recovery and wellness studio, Fatigue Lounge, to explore the services available to support athlete recovery and performance.
During the visit, students were welcomed and guided through the facility by owner Jasmine Matthews, who provided an overview of the various recovery and wellness services designed to enhance both physical and mental wellbeing.
Students also had the opportunity to experience the studio’s compression boots, which help improve circulation, reduce muscle soreness, assist in the removal of metabolic waste, and promote faster recovery following training and competition.
We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to visit Fatigue Lounge and look forward to working with Jasmine and her team again in the future.
We are hoping for some improved weather to hopefully head outdoors a bit more to utilise our improvements.

Cross Country
Lara Secondary College students proudly represented the school at the recent GSSSA Division Cross Country Championships, competing against some of the region's strongest runners.
The highlight of the day came from Skye Gamosa, who delivered an outstanding performance to win the Senior Boys Division Cross Country Championship. Skye ran a superb race from start to finish, crossing the line an incredible 54 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. His dominant victory showcased not only his exceptional fitness and determination but also the hard work and dedication he has shown throughout the season.
All Lara students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and resilience as they tackled the challenging course. Whether competing for a place at the next level or simply striving to achieve their personal best, every participant represented the college with pride.
Congratulations to Skye on his remarkable achievement and to all students who took part in the event. We look forward to seeing our runners continue their success in future competitions.

Lara Rugby Academy – Strong Results Against Sunshine
The Lara Secondary College Rugby Academy enjoyed a successful day of rugby at the grounds of Footscray Rugby Club on Wednesday, June 3rd, with both the Under 15 Boys and 1st XV boys’ teams recording impressive victories over Sunshine.
The Under 15 Boys demonstrated excellent teamwork, commitment, and skill execution to secure a well-deserved win. The players showed significant improvement in their game management and defensive organisation, highlighting the hard work being put in at training.
The 1st XV followed with another strong performance, overcoming a determined Sunshine side through disciplined defence, and attacking flair. The result reflects the squad's continued development throughout the Victorian Schools Championship campaign and their commitment to representing the College with pride.
Away from match action, the Girls Rugby Academy squad participated in a valuable training session combines with Sunshine secondary. The session was focused on skill development, game awareness and team combinations. The session provided an excellent opportunity for players to continue building towards upcoming fixtures while strengthening connections within the squad.
Congratulations to all players, coaches, and support staff on a successful day. The Academy looks forward to continuing its strong form as the Victorian Schools Rugby Shield transitions to Gala days in July and August.
