Mullauna’s debaters triumphed in all three debates they participated in at the Debating Association of Victoria’s inter-school competition at Tintern on Wednesday May 6.
In their debate against Tintern Grammar, Year 12s (A-Grade) Teiva L, Floyd D and Caitlin F argued strongly against a ban on draws for professional sports such as AFL and Chess. The were supported in brainstorming their arguments by Oliver H and Caitlin P. Floyd was declared best speaker.

Our B-grade team - Year 11s Ethan B and Year 10s Grey C and Nathan B – with support from Jeremy J - were successful in their battle against Yarra Valley Grammar. They argued against the proposal that the government should ban the use of e-bikes for people under the age of 18. They were coached by Mr Graham.

The topics for both of these debates were only announced an hour before the debate. Debaters had to brainstorm their arguments and write their speeches in that hour by themselves without any help from computers.
Our Year 9 team – Michelle E, Christina N and Delara M - also made Mullauna proud in debating Yarra Valley Grammar. They successfully argued against the proposal that it should be compulsory for all young people to complete 50 hours of community service each year. Ms Davidson is their coach.

Unfortunately, because some students were unavailable due to other school commitments, we had to forfeit our C-Grade Year 10 debate.
