Active Learning

Our school is undertaking a push to ensure our students are active learners. The attached active learner matrix is present in all classrooms. In Huddle this week, most students will be doing an activity that focuses on one of the behaviours that drives active learning. We hope that all students will come to understand and embrace what it means to be an active learner.

Homework Club

Homework Club runs at lunchtime on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Students are encouraged to come along and get their homework completed, catch up on missed work, or get some help. There’s teacher support in a quiet space and is open to all secondary students.

Writing Tips of the Week

Primary: Three-word Story Builder

Take turns adding exactly three words to build a story together, out loud or written on any scrap of paper. You start: "One dark night…" They add three words. You add three. Keep going until it ends naturally.

Secondary: The Other Side

Pick any opinion your teen holds strongly. Ask them to spend five minutes writing the best possible argument for the opposite view, as convincingly as they can, without hedging. Discuss it afterwards.

Numeracy

Tip of the week:

It is helpful for children to get practice at remembering numbers and other information. Encourage them to learn their address, the phone numbers of their parents, your car registration numbers, birth dates of all the family and so on.
