Welcome back!
This Term, in Inquiry, we have begun an exciting new topic all about weather! The children are becoming budding meteorologists as they explore and learn about the world around them.
Throughout this unit, students will build their understanding of how different types of weather affect their daily lives. We have started learning about common weather symbols (such as sun, rain, wind, and clouds) and what they represent.
In the coming weeks, we will be taking a closer look at clouds—what they look like and what they might tell us about the weather.
We look forward to sharing more of our weather discoveries with you!

Welcome back to Term 2!
We have had a great start to the term and students have settled back into routines well.
In Literacy, we are focusing on making connections while reading, helping students link what they read to their own experiences, other texts and the world around them.
In Maths, we are continuing our work with whole number, building confidence and understanding with number skills. We have also begun our new Maths groups which consist of a mix of students from grade 1-4, with a focus on introducing fractions.
In Inquiry, we are exploring weather, learning about different types of weather and how it impacts our daily lives.

Welcome back to Term 2! Our wonderful class has transitioned exceptionally well back into classroom expectations and routines.
This term we are beginning our literacy with reading a novel ‘Black Cockatoo’ together. Students have already shown maturity by being respectful of the deep and meaningful themes and events in this story.
For maths we are focussing the start of this term on fractions. Even though this is a new topic for many students, they are still giving lots of effort!
The inquiry topic we are learning this term is Earth and Space Sciences. So far, we have explored different minerals and their uses. Students have even found various types in the school yard. If you have any minerals or gems from home that you would like to bring in, that would be great! Pictures below give you an insight into what we have done so far.
Just a reminder to ensure students are reading at home each night, an adult signs off in their diary and students return these to their desk at school for teachers to see. Thank you to all for your contributions to term 1, especially with school fete. Students were extremely supportive with our basketball stall which led to it running smoothly and we were able to have fun! We are looking forward to a successful term 2!

Term 2 Update: Fete Success and Looking Ahead
Congratulations to our Year 10 students on their fantastic efforts at last term’s school fete! The cohort ran two highly successful stalls—face painting and the ever-popular sponge throw—and represented the school with enthusiasm, teamwork, and initiative.
A special thank you to Heidi, Aurealia, Nada, and Violet, who went above and beyond with the face painting stall, generously giving their time to paint the faces of visiting primary students and guests throughout the day. Appreciation also goes to April and Charlie for their organisation of lines and handling of payments, helping the stall run smoothly.
The sponge throw proved to be a crowd favourite, with Eamon, Riley, Xander, and Alexsis doing an excellent job organising and running the activity. A particular shoutout to Alexsis, who took full ownership of the stall—coordinating participants, managing payments, and even demonstrating entrepreneurial thinking by introducing a free five-minute round when Mr Watson was the target, drawing in a huge crowd! Thanks Alexsis!!
Overall, the Year 10s raised well over $300 across both stalls—an outstanding achievement and a testament to their teamwork and effort.
This term, students are already preparing for their Work Experience placements in Term 3, taking initiative to organise placements and complete required preparation. In the final week of term, students will also participate in Driver Education, an important and practical learning opportunity. We also extend a warm welcome to Emma who is a new year 10 student at our college.
We also look forward to the upcoming Year 9–10 Careers Expo at the Melbourne Showgrounds on Thursday 14 May, which will provide valuable insights into future pathways and career options.
As always, we encourage all Year 10 students to stay proactive in their learning—seeking clarification when needed and keeping up with homework and tasks at home—as they prepare for the transition into VCE or VM next year.
Well done to all students on a strong start to Term 2—we look forward to another productive and rewarding term ahead.

Year 11
Welcome Back to Term 2!
We hope everyone had a fantastic break and is feeling refreshed and ready for another big term ahead.
What a way to finish Term 1 — the School Fete was a fantastic success! A big thank you to our Year 11 students for running the Mario Kart competition throughout the day — it was great to see so many people getting involved. A special mention also to our VM students, who did an outstanding job assisting on the BBQ and helping keep everyone well fed.
The Debutant Ball on Friday night was also a huge success. Our students looked absolutely fantastic and showed off some impressive dancing skills. It was a wonderful evening and a great celebration for all involved.
Looking ahead, we have the Careers Expo excursion to Melbourne on Thursday, which is a great opportunity for students to explore a wide range of pathways and start thinking about future careers. We’re looking forward to seeing students engage with the exhibitors and investigate the many opportunities on display.
Term 2 is always a busy one, with plenty happening across the College, including Cross Country coming up. Let’s all get involved, support each other, and continue to build a strong and positive school culture.
Mr G’s Study Tip — Start Fast
The start of a term sets the tone for everything that follows.
✔️ Get organised early✔️ Stay on top of your work from Week 1✔️ Don’t let things pile up
A strong start makes the rest of the term much easier.
“How you start often determines how you finish.”
Let’s make it a great Term 2!

Year 12
From March 30 to April 1, the Year 12s travelled to Torquay for their final camp as Wedderburn College students. The trip began with loud music, plenty of laughs, food stops, and even matching Spider-Man pyjamas, setting the tone for the days ahead. After arriving and settling in, we jumped straight into a MasterChef challenge. Each group planned, shopped and cooked a full meal and dessert, ranging from honey chicken and chocolate truffles to chicken parmas, cookies, stir fry, and apple crumble. Everything turned out surprisingly edible, and the boy’s group were crowned the winner. We ended the day with a relaxed sunset walk along the beach, dipping our toes in the water, followed by a group reflection and celebrating Tyson’s birthday.
Day 2 was an early start, with a 7am sunrise walk by the ocean. Some were up and ready to go, while others needed a bit more encouragement, but everyone enjoyed the views and taking photos together. A quick stop at the coffee van helped wake us up before heading back to cook bacon and egg rolls and prepare lunch for the day ahead. We then visited Deakin University and The Gordon TAFE, where we explored potential pathways after school. We toured accommodation, saw study spaces and classrooms, and even got a glimpse into real classes in action, making the experience feel very real for what’s to come.
After that, we headed to the outlet shops, one of the most anticipated parts of the trip where everyone spent time finding bargains and enjoying some freedom. In the afternoon, we took part in a scavenger hunt around Torquay, which turned out to be a close and competitive challenge, with Dakota, Mia, and Tyson winning by just half a point. To celebrate, Mr Forrest kindly shouted everyone ice creams, which was a perfect way to finish the activity. That evening, everyone was exhausted, so we had a relaxed dinner, reflected on the day, and celebrated Chloe and Dakota’s birthdays with cake before heading off for an early night.
On the final day, we packed up, cleaned our accommodation, squeezed in some last-minute shopping, and began the trip home. It was a great way to wrap up our final camp, full of fun, laughter, and memories that will stick with us well beyond Year 12.
