Grade 5/6

Welcome back! Grade 5/6 has had a delightful start to Term 3, with students engaging in a range of exciting new learning experiences.
Day of Joy on Tuesday provided a gentle beginning to the term, with our school community gathering around the fire pit to share holiday stories and enjoy reconnecting with one another. Students then spent time cooking in Delkanyah and planting out our garden beds. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our community and strengthen connections.
We have begun reading The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. Students are developing their comprehension skills through class discussions, exploring character, theme and making predictions, as we begin following April’s adventures.
In Mathematics, students have commenced a focus on measurement, exploring length, mass and capacity. They are building their understanding of metric units, equivalent measurements and converting between units, while applying these skills in everyday contexts.
Students have also begun our Design Technology Inquiry Unit by considering the question, ‘What makes good design?’ We have been exploring the purpose of design, considering solutions and needs. It’s great to be back, and we are looking forward to a busy Term 3 filled with learning, creativity and collaboration.
