Year 6 Spotlight

Funfields Excursion!
The Year 6 cohort went to Funfields amusement park with the aim to form strong bonds with others before Grade 6 camp and the rest of the year.

A couple weeks ago we went to Funfields theme park and you could definitely tell which were the more popular rides. A lot of people loved the Gravity Wave and Supernova, and some were even willing to go on the massive spinning Voodoo!
If you ever felt sick when coming off a ride, or just needed to chill for a bit, you could lay down in the relaxing lazy river, and float around endlessly in the wave pool. Every year six loved Funfields. All of us would definitely go again!
Here are some other student reflections:
I really liked how the rides went up and down. Some people were scared for some rides and pushed through and went on them anyway. ~ Evie, 6B
I really enjoyed all of the thrilling and scary rides and waterslides, especially the Supernova and the wave pool. ~ Ava, 6B
I think Funfields was really fun and amazing, especially the Gravity Wave and Typhoon and being able to bring some money and buying snacks. ~ Izzy, 6B

Leadership in Year Six
Written by Ari, James & Penny
At Fairfield Primary School we show leadership by helping our students if they look like they need help, and by helping students to stay safe. Also when you're year six’s like us, you have a pretty big burden on your shoulders because most preps and younger students will copy what the older students do, so we need to make sure that we don’t do anything silly to help keep the younger students as safe as possible!
Also if we EVER saw some kind of bullying we would try to put a stop to it as fast as possible, by telling a teacher about it so the bullying would be put to a stop!
As well as being the oldest, some select people were voted as year six leaders. Here are our school leaders.

One of our school leaders commented, “I am proud that I have spoken at assembly, and I think it's cool to be at the top of the school."

The Sports We Do
In term one we are doing basketball, pickleball and rounders. In basketball we practice by splitting into teams and playing games. We practice our passing, shooting, and dribbling! In pickleball we grabbed a net, a pickleball and a paddle. In rounders someone pitches the ball then someone runs to base 1, 2, 3, or 4! If you get all the way to base 4 you score.
In all sports we play and engage with people we don't normally hang out with! It is great fun, and we get to learn brand new sports that we haven’t ever tried before.
Our Most Recent Session
At our most recent session we sat in the gym and Geoff told us the sports we were doing for term one.
Everyone got split up into three different sports, all mixed genders, and we got to work practising multiple skills that could be useful for the upcoming games. Sadly, there was no cricket team, but we are lucky to still have three new sports to try.
The basketballers jumped straight into it, and there were heaps of exciting games going on. The pickleballers were lucky to be learning a brand new sport, and seemed to be having a blast, and rounders, well this game is underrated, yet as exciting as all the others.
Here are some other student reflections:
I enjoy hitting the pickleball! ~ Lizzie, 6B
I like hanging out with my friends! ~ Aubrey, 6B
I liked playing basketball with friends, it’s very fun! ~ Harry, 6B
It’s fun trying new things! ~ Ayla, 6B
I’ve enjoyed playing with my friends and learning new things! ~ Lewis, 6B
I’ve really liked playing basketball with all my friends. ~ Willow, 6C
I’ve really enjoyed spending time with my friends and playing sports. ~Penny, 6C
Joys of Interschool Sport
We as a school are so lucky to have the opportunity to go out and play against other schools, it is a privilege that only a handful of lucky schools get. Overall, interschool sports helps you bond and get better at sports you never thought you’d play! So just wait until you’re in grade 6 – it is a one of a kind experience!
