School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports (SWPBS)

Teaching and reinforcing our school wide behaviour expectations.

Next term, our school will be introducing a simple system for acknowledging when students demonstrate our school wide expectations. This is an exciting step, as we know that recognising positive behaviour helps to build our students’ confidence, strengthen relationships, and encourages students to keep being safe, resilient, respectful, and enthusiastic learners.

To support this new approach, we will be using Compass to share positive behaviour acknowledgements with families.

Parents/carers may receive:

  • An email acknowledging their child’s behaviour.
  • A whole-class acknowledgment celebrating a group effort.

These messages will be directly linked to our school wide behaviour expectations, so you will be able to clearly see which positive behaviours are being recognised and acknowledged.

An example can be seen in the image:

When you receive one of these communications, we encourage you to celebrate and share this with your child or children.

To share and celebrate this success, you could:

  • Offer a high five and say “Nice work getting to your meeting spot when the music played.”
  • Say “I heard you used your growth mindset today, that’s awesome! Can you tell me more about what you did?”
  • Say “Your teacher let me know that you were a great learner today. I am so proud of you for that! What did you do?”

This shows your child that you are aware of their successes throughout the day and week at school, appreciate their effort to achieve this success, and strengthens the positive connection between home and school by celebrating success together.

Until the end of term one, members of the school leadership team will be experimenting with using this feature. This means over the next few weeks, you may get a notification via email and/or Compass about how your child and/or their class has displayed one or more of our expected behaviours.

As we experiment, we will be determining the need for any parameters around how this exciting function can be best used. Over this time, we will also be welcoming feedback from the parent perspective around the implementation of these notifications. Please reach out to Grace Clark to provide feedback to the SWPBS team around the effectiveness of these communications.

Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to foster a safe and inclusive environment for all members of our FPS community.
