Term 1 at Croydon SDS continues to see a strong sense of positivity across the school, with students actively engaging in their learning and building meaningful connections.
This week we held our annual Careers Expo which was once again successful with strong attendance from families. It was pleasing to see families engaging with providers and learning more about the supports and opportunities available beyond school.
We acknowledge that next week’s Curriculum Day, followed by the Stop Work Action, may cause disruption to our school community. We recognise that the timing of these events occurring on consecutive days is not ideal. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause families and appreciate your understanding and ongoing support.
A reminder that Monday, (23 March) is a whole school curriculum day where students are not required at school. This will be a day of professional learning for staff, with a focus on Team Teach, proactive and preventative behaviour support strategies.
As you may have heard in the media and read through school Compass posts, The Australian Education Union (AEU) has announced protected industrial action, including a Stop Work Action scheduled for Tuesday 24 March.
Some of our staff may choose to participate in this action, which may impact normal school operations on the day. We are currently planning to ensure appropriate supervision and student safety, while maintaining as much continuity as possible. Following communications via Compass earlier this week, we now have 12 staff confirmed who will join in the Stop Work action.
We will continue to keep families informed as more information becomes available. I will send out a Compass post on Monday outlining school arrangements during the Stop Work day. Once again, thank you for your understanding and support.
We have been advised that power works will be conducted in our area on Wednesday 25 March, from 7:30am to 3:00pm. These works involve a power pole replacement and will result in road closures on Bacchus Drive and Homer Avenue. Please take extra care when travelling to and from the school, as these works may lead to increased traffic on surrounding roads.
We have not been informed that we will be losing power on this day; if this changes, we will inform our school community via Compass.

As communicated in the last newsletter, we are seeking parents/carees to be part of a home-school communication review in term 2.
We will be undertaking a review of our current home–school communication practices. This will include looking at the range of ways we currently communicate with families, such as communication books, phone calls, emails, Compass and newsletters. The purpose of this review is to identify what is working well and where we can strengthen our approach to ensure communication is clear, consistent and supportive for all families across the school.
We are inviting interested parents and carers to join a small working party with staff members. This will involve approximately 3 meetings throughout the term. Meeting times will be determined by the availability of working party members. The group will have the opportunity to share perspectives, discuss current practices and help identify possible next steps for developing consistent whole-school home–school communication practices.
If you are interested in being part of this working party, please contact the school office. We would greatly value family input to help ensure our communication processes best meet the needs of our school community.
Parents and carers are warmly invited to attend our upcoming School Council Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The AGM is an important opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past year and review our 2025 School Annual Report. Your involvement and voice are highly valued, and we encourage all members of our school community to attend.
Following the AGM, a general School Council meeting will be held. New members are welcome, and we encourage anyone interested in contributing to the ongoing improvement and governance of our school to consider attending.
