University of Melbourne Girls’ Programming Network Term 1 for Students in Year 8+

This workshop is for high school students (Year 8 onwards). In this workshop we’ll be looking at Markov chains, which are a great introduction to Artificial Intelligence! We’ll make a program that can create new sentences based on books, song lyrics or anything you want! This project is very similar to the programming in your phone that tries to suggest the next word you want to write in your text messages, and can be used for all kinds of fun things like writing the next Taylor Swift song or the long awaited “Green Eggs and Ham” sequel!

PRICE

This event is totally free! We're providing a day of coding, snacks, and fun for everyone. If you can't make it after registering, please cancel your ticket. We have a long waiting list, and it's super important that you let us know if you can't attend.   

LOCATION

GPN is going down at the OLD ENGINEERING SCHOOL (BUILDING 173) at the University of Melbourne, Parkville Campus. To find the building, just enter the campus at Grattan Street, Gate 10 and go past Infrastructure Engineering (Block B), turn right and walk towards the Old Engineering School.

CATERING

We'll be serving up some delicious pizza for lunch, along with fruit, chocolate, and lollies to keep you going throughout the day. We can accommodate vegetarians as well as lactose and gluten intolerances. If you have any other dietary needs, you'll need to bring your own food. Make sure to pack a lunch that doesn't need to be refrigerated.

Remember to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated - water taps are available around the building.

What do you need to bring to the workshop?

Just bring yourself!

You don't need to bring a printed ticket, or a tablet/laptop or any other device with you on the day of the event. Simply come along ready to learn lots and have fun while coding some cool stuff!

Discover ACU – Campus Events

Discover ACU is designed to give you an exciting first taste of specific disciplines, with an opportunity to speak with current ACU students to find out what life is like in your study area.

In the April school holidays, RMIT will be hosting tours across each of its campuses - a great opportunity for students to find out more about their options after high school.

Day in the Life of a Swinburne Student

Over three days in the April holidays, high school students can register to participate in

immersive on-campus events. The three days will cover a range of study areas, including STEM, aviation, health, media and communications, games and animation, design, business, arts and humanities, education and psychology.

Registrations are essential, and students can book one or more of these sessions at A Day in the Life of a Swinburne Student.

University of Melbourne: Hands-on Design Holiday Workshop

Students from Year 9 to Year 12 engage in creative, interactive activities exploring design principles and problem-solving across specialisations. Workshops cover areas like

architecture, user experience, landscape design, construction, urban planning, property, and visual and performance design, highlighting design's role in transforming spaces and

experiences.

University of Melbourne: Hands-on Engineering & IT Holiday Workshop Experience a day packed with engaging workshops designed to introduce Year 10 & 11 students to the dynamic fields of Engineering and IT.

Over the April holidays, William Angliss Institute will be hosting the following -

Cookery Experience Day – Tuesday 14 April

Curious about life in the kitchen? Join our hands-on Cookery Experience Day and learn to create a tasty new dish in our training kitchens – no experience needed, just bring your appetite! It’s a great way to explore our campus, meet new people, and discover the exciting opportunities waiting for you at Angliss. Students will get to enjoy a delicious lunch in the Angliss Bistro

The cost is $45 and students must register at Cookery Experience Day.
