Library News

This week St Peter’s celebrated International Women’s Day which this year emphasized fair and inclusive justice, especially for vulnerable women and girls. Historically female writers have risen to challenge social norms even when they have not meant to have an opinion.
Charlotte Bronte’s classic 1847 novel “Jane Eyre” has themes of independence, love and self respect. This book was a hit in its day and still has relevant topics in our modern world where the central female character claims ‘I am a free human being with an independent will’.
Contemporary Australian author Isobelle Carmody has written over 40 books such as Obernewtyn Chronicles which deal with issues around responsibility, duty, prejudice and human rights.
We hope that all our students can gain insight to strong female characters by reading our wide range of books.
