Pi Day 2024

Thursday 1 March 2024

International Day of Mathematics - Pi Day is celebrated around the world on March 14th to recognise the important maths symbol and constant of Pi.  At Mordialloc College we celebrated this day outside the Enquiry Zone (EZ) at lunch with maths talk and party pies!

To receive a party pie students needed to do two of the following: recite Pi to 5 decimal places, explain why Pi is rational or irrational, explain how Pi relates to a circle, state a formula that uses Pi or tell us a maths joke.

This year we had two additional competitions free hand circle drawing and reciting the most Pi decimal place.

Congratulations to Celestine Debargue-Tamai, Charlotte Kerr, Taeya Erlandsen, Seth Wainwright, and Grace Maddaford for winning the free hand circle drawing competition.

Congratulations to Kieran Cochrane, Joshua Hadrian and Keita Rogers for reciting Pi to 50, 70 and 60 decimals places respectively.

Well done to all of the students that participated and we are looking forward to more activities in 2025.
