Last Friday saw us take 3 teams to the Division basketball tournament at Selkirk stadium.
The girls basketball team took to the game like a duck to water. What they lacked in experience they made up for in passion. With only two girls having ever played before they were all feeling a bit nervous. They found their groove quickly winning their first two games with ease. Their third game was a tough one against bigger and more experienced girls. They struggled to score and lost to the team that went on to win the grand final with ease.
I’m so proud of the girls for their determination, passion and the way they encouraged each other. They showed great skills and amazing team work. They should all be so proud of the way they conducted themselves, making it a fun day for everyone.

The boys B team had a fantastic day with some solid wins and very close losses. Although we had limited time training as a group the boys played well as a team and unselfishly shared the ball waiting for the right shots and celebrating great team work. It was great to see their enthusiasm throughout the day and their demonstration of sportsmanship was fantastic.
The boys A team went through the day undefeated. Playing quality team offence and some hard defence saw even the hardest teams not being able to match our play. Winning our way through to the first final saw up defeat Black Hill. This got us into the grand final against Buninyong. The boys had narrowly defeated Buninyong earlier in the day with a foul shot after the buzzer so knew they were in for a tough game. With a simple game plan of defensively making every catch hard, shot even harder and being patient and unselfish in offense we were able to secure the win. This will be the first time in 8 years that we have sent a team to compete at the Regional Championships. This will be held again at Selkirk Stadium on October 24th.
Thank you as always to Kristen Harmer and Kristy Trehair for coaching and to Winter Harmer and Levi Ward for stepping in to umpire on our behalf. None of these days can happen without this kind of assistance.
