Dress Up Day and Parade
It was incredible to see so many of our students, family members and staff dressed as their favourite book characters for Mackellar’s Book Week and Fun with Dad celebration.
The morning began with families gathering in the Hive, where coffee and sweet treats were available. Families also enjoyed visiting the photo booths before the special assembly and Book Week parade in the gym. It was wonderful to see students and many enthusiastic dads and father figures showcasing their creative costumes. A big thank you to our wonderful School Leaders for leading the assembly with confidence and enthusiasm. As always, they did an excellent job! Thank you to everyone in our school community who joined us and helped make the morning such a special and memorable event.
This year, our Dress Up Day raised money for Reading Out of Poverty (ROOP), an Australian registered charity and not-for-profit organisation that helps children across Australia develop the foundational literacy skills they need to flourish. Thank you to our Mackellar community for your generous gold coin donations towards this very worthy cause. This money will help place books into the hands of children and families in East Arnhem Land communities.
Book Week Incursion
As part of our Book Week celebrations, Prep to Grade 4 students were treated to Something Special, a lively and interactive performance featuring comedy, songs, dancing and a selection of 2026 CBCA-shortlisted books. Through the adventures of Shelly and Tom, students explored the importance of cooperation, empathy and compromise while celebrating the joy and possibilities of books and reading.
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair returned to Mackellar during our Book Week celebrations and was another tremendous success. It was fantastic to see so many families visit the fair and purchase new books to read and enjoy. Thank you to everyone who supported the Book Fair. A percentage of the proceeds will go towards purchasing new books for our classroom and school libraries. We look forward to having the Scholastic Book Fair back at Mackellar in 2027.
