Visual Arts

At Mackellar Primary School term 3 saw all grades start their Visual Art Show preparation. The students are creating two artworks each and most grades artworks are based around famous art styles, artists, authors and personal expression. The grade Preps are using two picture story books for inspiration.

As well as appropriating art work of other artists, students are focused on developing and extending their knowledge of the colour theory, line and making marks on a page to create the artworks. This year they are using different media and application techniques, building on last year’s work.

Students will work on their final pieces in their visual art sessions, keeping the final art work a guarded secret to other year levels, ready for the art show reveal.  At the art show on October 22nd, that is starting at 4.30pm -7.30pm, parents will be able to view the art and have the opportunity to view other community and student artworks around the school.

Further information will be sent to families in the coming weeks and is available in the newsletter.

Copies of last year’s finalists of the production competition ‘Age of Reason’ will also be displayed near the gym so that families can look at them in more detail. We have some community artists returning to Mackellar to  showcase their work again this year and we have some new styles and art formats to enjoy.

Finally,  a reminder to the Grade prep, 1 & 2 students to bring an art smock to school please. They will be kept in the students classroom.
