Hats
Please send in hats that are at home as the UV is beginning to increase with sunny days. Most hats are at school, however a few students didn’t have them for PE this week.
Mr Kriewaldt on Long Service Leave
Mrs Kat Newman will continue to teach in 1/2AK on Fridays for the remainder of the term. Please send any class messages on Fridays to office@goldengrove.sa.edu.au
P & F Quiz Night on Saturday 22nd August
Come along for some adults only fun. We would love to see a yr 1/2 Cluster table. It is $125 per table (10 per table) or $15 for an individual. All proceeds will go towards a project around the school.
Book Week and Community Breakfast
Book Week events are happening in Week 6. Students come to school dressed up as their favourite book character on Tuesday 25th August. Families are invitedtoJoin us for our free Community breakfast at 8am, before the annual book week parade. In Week 7, we will be doing the Great Book Swap instead of a book fair.
Chapel/Assembly swap in Week 7
Chapel is on Monday at 2.30pm in Week 7 and the 1/2 Classes are presenting at Assembly on Thursday 3rd September beginningat 8:50am.

Monday 31st August – Thursday 3rd August (Week 7): Book Swap – bring a book and a gold coin donation to school and take a book home. Money goes to Indigenous literacy.
Bring a pre-loved book. Swap it for another. Make a donation to help gift culturally relevant books, including books in First Languages, to children in remote Communities across Australia. Every $10 raised helps put one book into a child’s hands.

Year 1 Sleepover Thursday 24th September to Friday 25th September.
We are looking for parent volunteers for the Year 1 sleepover. If you are willing and able to stay overnight or help out during the Thursday afternoon/evening with preparation, please contact your class teacher.
Shoelaces
If your child has shoes with laces, they must be independent with tying the laces when they come undone. They are also required to remove their shoes for activities such as Tri-Skills and Perceptual Motor Program lessons.
Home Inquiry
What playgrounds do you like visiting? Take a photo and email it to your class teacher to show what you like and why. You can also discuss what you don’t like and why as well.
Reading: We encourage your child to read every night for 10-15 minutes. Please listen to your child read the decodable books and ask the ‘check for understanding’ questions at the back. Once you have read the ‘decodable book’ 2 or 3 times, please send it back with the recording sheet.
The ‘Interest books' with coloured round stickers on the front may need to be read together.

Christian Studies
Students are using role play and puppets to investigate the stories of The Lost Sheep, The Wise and Foolish Man, The Good Samaritan and Zaccheus, with a focus on how God looks after us and then how we can look after others. Students will then inquire into the UN rights of the child and what they can do to help children who don’t have access to rights such as schooling, which links to the Pong-a-thon.
Writer’s and Reader’s Workshop
Students will take part in whole school and class activities for Book Week.
The classes are undertaking the Premier’s Reading Challenge and the Premier’s Be Active Challenge together. Once completed, students will receive a certificate or medal at Assembly next term.
Mathematics:
Students continue to practice addition, subtraction, grouping and sharing. They inquire into length and mass, which links to the new Unit of Inquiry.
Unit of Inquiry: How the World Works
Students will begin this unit investigating push and pull (Year 1) and sound and properties of materials (Year 2), as well as inquiring into how scientists conduct experiments and record observations.
