Pong-a-Thon – Thank You

What a wonderful weekend it was for our Serve Up Hope Pong-a-Thon, held in partnership with Golden Grove Lutheran Church. It was encouraging to see so many students, families, and community members get involved with playing, sponsoring, volunteering, and cheering each other on in support of the fight against modern slavery.

Thank you to our community for your generosity; final fundraising numbers are still being tallied and will be announced shortly. This event was a genuine expression of our students living out their Christian values of compassion and social justice, and we are grateful to everyone who made it such a success.

P&F Trivia Night – This Saturday

A reminder that our P&F Trivia Night is on this Saturday evening. It promises to be a wonderful community occasion, with some great prizes on offer. Our P&F Committee has worked tirelessly to put together a fantastic night, and we thank them sincerely for their efforts. If you haven't yet booked a ticket, we'd love to see you there for an evening of fun and fellowship.

Around the School

Our Foundation to Year 2 students have been enjoying their tri-skills gymnastics lessons this term, developing fundamental movement skills across balance, coordination, and body control — the building blocks for confidence in all future physical activity. It's wonderful to see our youngest learners building both physical competence and the resilience that comes from trying, falling, and trying again.

Alongside this, our teaching staff have recently engaged in lesson study, a collaborative professional learning approach where teachers plan, observe, and refine lessons together with a specific focus in mind. This term's focus has been on embedding the PYP Approaches to Learning — thinking skills, communication skills, social skills, self-management, and research skills — more deliberately into everyday classroom practice. Our goal is for students to develop these as natural habits of mind across every their learning.

Looking Ahead

Term 3 has more to offer yet. Festival of Music will showcase the choral talents of students across the school , giving families the chance to see the fruits of a much practice and rehearsal. Book Week celebrations, with this year's theme "Symphony of Stories," will take place in Week 6 including our Community Breakfast and Character Parade in the Worship Centre. We'll also welcome an author visit, giving students the opportunity to hear firsthand from a published writer about the craft of storytelling.

Book Week 2026 – Tuesday 25 August

Exciting times ahead in our library! Book Week 2026 is fast approaching, with this year's theme, "Symphony of Stories," celebrating the wonderful orchestra of books we all get to read and share.

Students, staff and parents are invited to dress up on Tuesday 25 August to enjoy our Community Breakfast at 8.00am, courtesy of our P&F Committee, followed by our Book Week Character Parade in the Worship Centre. Costumes don't need to be elaborate — clothes from home are most welcome (please keep footwear practical for play and learning).

The Great Book Swap – Week 7 (Monday 31 August – Thursday 4 September)

Hot on its heels, The Great Book Swap runs in Week 7 (Monday 31 August – Thursday 4 September). For a gold coin donation, students can swap a book they've finished for a new one to enjoy, with proceeds supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Book donations can be dropped at the Front Office or Sunnybrook Library by 26 August.
