Serena Hateley – Class of 2020 Hairstylist & Business Owner.
From a school-based apprenticeship to business ownership, St Brigid’s College Class of 2020 graduate Serena Hateley has built a successful hairdressing career doing what she loves
.“In my final years of high school, I wasn’t completely sure what path I wanted to take, but I knew I wanted a career that was creative, hands on, and allowed me to work with people. I’ve always enjoyed practical learning and working outside of the traditional classroom environment, which led me to explore vocational pathways during school. In Year 12, I began a school based hairdressing apprenticeship while completing VCAL. This opportunity allowed me to gain real industry experience while still finishing my schooling, and it confirmed that hairdressing was the perfect fit for me. Being able to learn in a salon environment, develop practical skills, and build confidence working with clients was incredibly valuable.I’m so grateful for the guidance and support I received from my VCAL teachers, who encouraged me and helped me take the first steps into my career. Their support made a huge difference and helped me pursue something I’m truly passionate about.Since graduating and completing my apprenticeship, I’ve continued to grow in the hairdressing industry, and I’m now proud to own my own business. I feel incredibly lucky to have a career that allows me to be creative, connect with people, and help others feel confident every day.”
