Fluency practice helps children move from decoding to reading smoothly and confidently. This allows them to focus more on understanding, enjoying and thinking about what they are reading.

Science Week has been so much fun!  Grade 1 students learnt about classifying animals and plants. Grade 2 students learnt about the journey seeds take and what they need to survive. Mr Elliott, took us on a nature walk, where we found different seeds in plants around our school, we even collected and planted some of them. Mr. David joined each grade 2 classroom and helped us to discover some wonderful Australian native plants. He gave us an exciting choice of three plants to grow: Purple Wisteria, Billy Buttons and Everlasting Paper Daisies!.

In Mathematics, Grade 2's  have been learning about fractions and applying our understanding of halves and quarters to correctly identify and shade parts of a whole. We have been working with 2D shapes to measure the area of a shape using informal square units and measuring the mass of different objects in the classroom using an Equal Arm Balance Scale.

Across Core Literacy, Grade 2 students have been learning the /air/ sound and the different spellings that represent it, including <air, are, ear, ere> and <eir>. We have also been revising previously learned sounds and practising our high-frequency words, such as move, earth, buy, build, I’ll, eye, group and young, alongside words from Terms 1 and 2. We have been reading many of this years Book Week Shortlisted books to students and look forward to seeing all our students wonderful 2026 Book Week Costumes this Tuesday (25/8) at our 2026 Book Week Parade.
