Kinder/Year 1

In Science and Technology this term, K12 have been investigating sound.
Students explored how sound is made through vibrations and investigated how different actions and materials affect the sounds produced. They discovered how instruments can create sound by hitting, shaking, plucking and blowing and compared the sounds made by materials such as wood, plastic, rubber, paper and metal. Students examined how designers choose materials for instruments based on the sounds they produce and the needs of the user. Following the Design Process, students then designed, created and tested their own musical instrument, using classroom materials to produce sound effectively and evaluate how well their design met the agreed success criteria. We then played our instruments with a real orchestra!
In the Year 1 and 2 side of the room, this science was integrated into our English where we read stories of real life inventors and the processes engineers and inventors go through to finally have a new invention. We have been writing recounts about their lives and incredible creations.
