Senior Athletics Carnival
Recently, we held our Senior Athletics Carnival, with all Grade 3–6 students getting involved in a range of track and field events. The weather certainly made things interesting, with very cold and wet conditions throughout the day!
Unfortunately, one of our planned events, high jump, couldn’t go ahead, which was disappointing for many students.
Despite this, our Kalinda athletes took it all in their stride and showed fantastic resilience, effort and positive attitudes throughout the carnival. We were so impressed with everyone’s determination to keep going, have a go and support one another.
There were plenty of ribbons handed out throughout the day to celebrate students’ individual achievements, while House Points were also up for grabs for both participation and event placings.
We have recently finished the last of the events that were completed at school, which means we can now start forming our District Athletics Team.
I’d like to take a moment to thank parent Amanda H for all her help with this. It was a huge help, and I really appreciate your support!
After adding up all the House Points, we can now announce our overall House winners
:1st – McCubbin House: 699 points
2nd – Chisholm House: 655 points
3rd – Parkes House: 647 points
4th – Melba House: 566 points
A huge congratulations to McCubbin House! Our McCubbin House Captains were presented with the Athletics Shield to celebrate their win.
Kalinda Athletics Records
We’d also like to give a special shout-out to the students who set a Kalinda Athletics Record at this year’s carnival. Since 2015, we have kept records of our students’ best athletics performances, so achieving a new school record is a special achievement!
Congratulations to:
Ryder D• 11-Year-Old Long Jump – 3.79m• 11-Year-Old Triple Jump – 7.80m• 11-Year-Old Discus – 21.21m• 11-Year-Old Hurdles – 14.80 seconds• 11-Year-Old 100m – 14.61 seconds• 11-Year-Old 200m – 30.56 seconds
Brock H• 12/13-Year-Old Long Jump – 4.19m• 12/13-Year-Old 200m – 30.33 seconds – breaking the previous record by just 1millisecond!
Kai M• 12/13-Year-Old Discus – 27.08m
These are some seriously impressive results, and you should all be incredibly proud of your achievements! A huge well done to all of our Grade 3–6 students who competed, gave things a go and encouraged each other throughout the day. That’s what makes our Kalinda carnivals so great. We wish all of our athletes the very best of luck as they progress through to the next level of competition!
