YEAR 4

Technology vs Paper: Year 4 Investigates!

On Monday 10 August, Year 4 had the opportunity to interview Mr Higgs about the use of technology and paper at GSPS. The interview formed part of our English learning, as students are currently gathering evidence and perspectives to support their upcoming persuasive presentations on Should GSPS go fully digital?

The discussion also provided an opportunity for students to explore sustainable practices within our school, linking our English learning with our HASS unit this term.

Year 4 prepared a range of questions to investigate the practical considerations of moving towards a more digital school, including:

  • Why isn't GSPS fully digital?
  • What costs would be involved in becoming fully digital?
  • How often would technology and devices need to be upgraded?
  • Would the school network be able to support increased digital use?
  • What are some of the implications of moving towards a fully digital school?

To finish the session, students were taken on a tour of the 'old tuckshop', where they saw the large amount of paper currently stored onsite and awaiting transfer to the archives.

It was a fantastic opportunity for students to ask meaningful questions, gather evidence from a real-world perspective and consider the environmental, financial and practical factors involved in the choices our school makes. Year 4 will now use what they have learned to help develop their persuasive arguments!
