Our Journey of Discovery Continues!
You may have seen our Journey of Discovery painting in the office foyer (pictured above). When we worked with Aunty Cheryl to create the painting in 2024, we also had a vision to teach the students weaving with Aunty Cheryl.
In 2025, students and staff began working alongside Aunty Cheryl to weave the goannas using straw and wood sourced from Bigambul Country. The project continued this year, with students and staff having the opportunity to work with Aunty Cheryl, Aunty Val and Aunty Di during our NAIDOC Day celebrations at GSPS.
The Cultural Committee were very excited to welcome Aunty Cheryl back, after school, on Thursday 30 July 2026, when she delivered the completed goannas.
A very special thank you to Aunty Cheryl, Aunty Di and Aunty Val for sharing their knowledge, skills and time throughout this project. We are incredibly grateful for the care and cultural knowledge that has gone into bringing this vision to life.
Don't you agree that they look amazing?!
Watch this space for more information on the story and significance of our goannas and where they will be displayed around our school.
