Week 4 - Speaking Respectfully

Week 5 - Ignoring Distractions

Week 6 - Bullying No Way!

Speaking Respectfully

This week, students will focus on how our tone of voice can show respect. We will explore how the way we say something can affect how others feel and understand our message.

Students will practise:

  • Using a calm, friendly and respectful tone.
  • Thinking about how their tone, volume and body language affect others.
  • Using respectful words such as please, thank you and excuse me.
  • Speaking respectfully when they disagree or feel frustrated.

Ignoring Distractions

This week, students will learn strategies for ignoring distractions and staying focused on their learning and making positive choices.

Students will practise:

  • Keeping their eyes, body and attention on the task.
  • Continuing to work when others are talking or being silly.
  • Making good choices even when others are making different choices.
  • Moving away from distractions when needed.
  • Asking an adult for help if a distraction continues.

Bullying No Way!

This week, students will focus on Bullying No Way! and learn about being kind, inclusive and safe. We will discuss what students can do if they experience or see unkind or unsafe behaviour.

Students will practise:

  • Recognising kind, unkind and unsafe behaviour.
  • Speaking up when something doesn't feel right.
  • Walking away from situations when appropriate.
  • Supporting others who may be feeling upset or left out.
  • Telling a trusted adult when they need help.

Bullying No Way Week

This Friday, our school will recognise Bullying No Way Week by wearing a splash of purple!

Throughout the week, students have been learning about how we can understand, prevent and respond to bullying, with a strong focus on our GREAT expectation of Respect.

On Friday, students are encouraged to add a little purple to their school uniform – a purple ribbon, socks, hair accessory or another small splash of purple.

Together, we can send a clear message: Bullying? No Way!

Wellbeing Week

Next week we are celebrating Wellbeing Week, with a focus on connection, fun and taking care of ourselves and each other.

Each day, teachers will include a different wellbeing activity for students – something a little different from the usual school day to encourage connection, movement, laughter and positive relationships.

And there’s NO HOMEWORK!

Instead of homework, we encourage families to use that time to get out, switch off and connect with your kids. Play a game, go for a walk, cook together, kick a ball, read a book, spend some time outside or simply have a chat.

And don’t forget the pets! Take the dog for a walk, play in the backyard or just enjoy some time together.

It doesn’t need to be complicated – slow down, get outside and enjoy time together.

POP-UP HOUSE EVENT!

Something exciting is coming during Wellbeing Week!

Keep your eyes and ears open for a surprise Pop-Up House Event! You won’t know when or what it will be until it happens!

Get ready to join in, have some fun and earn points for your House!

Watch out… it could pop up at any time!

Fidget Toys – Please Leave Them at Home

Gallery Image

We ask that students do not bring fidget toys or other toys from home to school. Unfortunately, these items are increasingly causing distractions, disagreements and problems between students.

If a student requires a fidget tool to support their learning or regulation, the school will provide an appropriate one for them to use.

Leaving personal toys and fidgets at home helps us keep classrooms and playgrounds calm, safe and focused on learning.

Thank you for your support.

House Competition

Our House Reading Challenge, as part of the Premier’s Reading Challenge, is well underway!

Every book you read helps your House get closer to taking out the House Reading Challenge!

There’s even more reason to get involved – each week, students have the chance to win a book of their very own!

So, grab a book, get reading and help your House climb the leaderboard.

Which House will read their way to victory and win an extra play in the library!

A big thank you to Mrs Ford for organising the challenge and encouraging our students to get reading!

SPORT

On 30th July, our Track and Field team proudly represented our school community at the Macintyre Zone School Sport Track and Field Carnival. All students competed with great enthusiasm, determination, and sportsmanship, and we are extremely proud of their efforts and achievements throughout the day. Selected students will now progress to represent the Macintyre Zone team at the Darling Downs School Sport Track and Field Carnival, which will be held in Toowoomba on 25 and 26 August. We wish these students the very best of luck as they continue their athletics journey.

Our monthly themes for this term are Physical Play, Literacy and Around the World.

Over the past three weeks we have had a lovely time discovering and playing together at Playgroup.

Our little mates joined us for a Teddy Bear's Picnic, learnt how to move their bodies and stay active in our Let's Get Physical week, and recently, learnt about good hygiene practices like washing our hands, brushing our teeth, eating healthy foods and covering our mouths when we cough or sneeze.

Over the coming weeks, our PLAY focus will be:

  • How to Stay Safe and what to do in an Emergency
  • The Wonderful World of Science - forces, buoyancy and chemical reactions
  • Book Week 'Symphony of Stories'
