Year 9 News

We are now well into Term 2 and students have settled in positively to the term. It has been fantastic to see students engaging in their learning and taking part in the many opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom.

This week, students completed the AToSS (Attitudes to School Survey). This survey provides valuable feedback about students’ experiences at school and helps us continue to improve student wellbeing, engagement, and learning outcomes. We encourage all students to thoughtfully participate.

In Week 6, students will also undertake Careers Testing. This process is designed to help students better understand their strengths, interests, and possible future pathways as they continue to explore career and subject options.

Throughout the term, students will continue to be involved in a wide range of experiences including classroom learning activities, excursions, extracurricular opportunities, and wellbeing programs. We are proud of the way students have represented the school and embraced these opportunities so far.

Around the Classrooms

Science

Year 9 students explored the four spheres of the Earth, the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and geosphere, and how they interact as connected systems. Students focused on the carbon cycle, investigating how carbon moves through Earth’s systems and how human activities can disrupt this balance and contribute to climate change.

Humanities

After enduring a grueling Term 1 studying The Dismal Science (Economics), Year 9 Humanities students have been excited to embrace their study of Geography, in particular the study of our planet's biomes and how changes in climate and technology impact on the ways we choose to manage our biomes, protect food security, and face environmental challenges.  Students are working hard to learn a variety of research techniques and more formal research writing practices, such as mastering how to use APA 7 reference citation standards.  This term also marks the introduction of more regular homework as everyone learns how to embrace the scholarly habits of independent practice.
