The Cost of Being Late to School

Every day might be counting, but the minutes are adding up.

We are noticing that we have a number of students who are late to school.

The start of the day is important. It’s when students settle in, connect with their teacher and classmates, and begin key learning. Arriving late can make it harder for students to feel confident and ready for the day ahead -  even being 5-10 minutes lates means missing key instructional time.

We understand that every family’s situation is different, and sometimes absences are unavoidable. If your child is experiencing ongoing challenges with lateness or daily absences, please reach out - we’re here to support you.

Thankyou for supporting our College to help every student start their day strong.

School Gates

Ensuring the safety of your child is a high priority at Truganina College. The gates and fences in our College ensure that your child remains in the College grounds when they are at school. The opening and closing times of gates also supports the safety of your child and all children in the College.

Morning Routine:

  • School gates open early each morning
  • Yard supervision begins at 8:30am
  • Music will play at 8:40am, signalling for students to move to their classrooms
  • Classroom doors open at 8:45am, marking the start of the school day
  • Students arriving after 8:45am will be marked as late

Gate Closure:

  • All gates close at 8:45am to ensure student safety and prevent students leaving the grounds
  • If you arrive after this time, please enter via the main office, where your child will be signed in and marked as late

Afternoon Routine:

  • Gates open at approximately 2:50pm
  • School finishes at 3:00pm

Your support in ensuring that your child arrives on time to school and follows these procedures is greatly appreciated. These routines are in place to maintain a safe, orderly, and positive start and end to each school day.

Please reach out to your child's teacher, assistant principal or our office team if you need any assistance, we are here to help.
