A Message from James Bayard
The Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) is a voluntary student survey offered by the Department of Education every year to help schools and the department understand students' experiences of school. Our students will be asked their thoughts and feelings about their school, their learning, relationships with other students, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general. All responses are anonymous but provide rich data for the college about our strengths and areas for improvement.
This survey has been running for nearly 20 years and helps the college plan programs and activities to improve student engagement with school, as well as their wellbeing and learning. The survey data also helps the Department of Education understand how to improve student learning.
Student responses on AtoSS are a key data set as part of the college’s strategic plan and as a school we place a high priority on ensuring the voices of all our students are heard. Truganina College has specific strategic targets related to student voice and agency, stimulated learning, managing bullying and school connectedness. Once the data comes in, our Student Voice Leaders in years 5-9 will analyse the data and use it to identify our next steps.
We want all our students to share their honest experiences of learning and to contribute meaningfully to our areas of strength and growth. Delivery of the survey began on Monday, with our fantastic Year Six and Year Eight students, supported by the Student Voice team. Our Year Fours, Sevens and Nines will also be completing the survey this week, while our year Fives will wait until week six (once they are back from their amazing camp!).
We look forward to seeing the feedback from our students and working with them to continue to provide amazing learning opportunities for them this year and beyond.
