School Council Presidents Report

I am delighted to step into the role of President of the Elsternwick Primary School Council and would like to acknowledge the great job and huge contribution that Mitch Tucker made to the EPS and its community throughout his time in the role. My husband Rob and I have Zach in 3A and Cleo in 1A. It is a privilege to take on this role, and I am looking forward to working alongside our wonderful community, staff and fellow councillors to support EPS.
2027 Prep enrolments are now open via the Department of Education's digital enrolment system and will close on 31 July. Demand for new Prep students is high with tours booking out and many families keen to join our fabulous school community, noting that in-zone and sibling enrolments will be prioritised for acceptance before accepting out-of-zone enrolments.
Finance & School Policies
On the finance front, the 2026 budget was formally approved with School Council also endorsing a number of administrative updates including changes to authorised signatories and purchasing card holders following staff changes.
School Council is responsible for reviewing and approving updated school policies, and this meeting included approving a suite of updated policies covering Sun Protection, Bullying Prevention, Attendance, Equal Opportunity, and Working With Children.
The school is also reviewing its Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy, in line with recent updates issued by the Department of Education. Staff are currently working through these changes whilst ensuring that students continue to meet the Digital Technologies curriculum requirements - updates will be provided in due course.
Keeping us on our toes, Miss Williams had all Councillors complete a quiz on the Child Safe Standards, and I'm pleased to report we passed with flying colours!
Parents and Carers Association
The PCA is back up and running and already has exciting events in the pipeline, including a Fathers' and Carers' Day lunch structured as a ticketed event. The full calendar of PCA and SRC fundraising events for the year was also endorsed by School Council - more event information will be coming soon!
As always, if you have any questions or would like to know more about the work of School Council, please don't hesitate to enquire at the office, and please feel free to say hello if you see me around the school.
Kindest,
Meg
