TAFE Yes Program - Hair & Beauty Course

Our TAFE YES Hair & Beauty program concluded with the final day focusing on students learning about skin therapies and facials. The five-week program was an amazing opportunity for our students, who all thoroughly enjoyed learning about hairstyling, make-up, nail finishing techniques and skin therapies.

We thank Fee Smith of TAFE in her advocacy and organising this course for our students and Rachael Greenway and all the TAFE staff at Narrandera campus for their support of our students and for the lovely morning teas that have been provided each week. Talk about spoilt! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank TAFE teacher Naomi who travelled over from the Wagga campus each day for the program.

Be A Health Hero Program

Last week, Mia C, Zoe M and Jess W had the opportunity to attend the second round of the four-day Be a Health Hero workshop in Wagga Wagga. This immersive program provided hands on and practical experience in the areas of Nursing, Allied Health and Medicine. The workshops were held at Wagga Base Hospital, Calvary Hospital and Wagga TAFE campus and at Charles Sturt University.

The last day of the program included an escape room challenge that by all accounts was a highlight and really pushed students to draw on all they had learnt over the four days. Mia, Zoe and Jess all came back to school full of excitement and ideas on possible future career options in health.

Well done ladies on your exceptional manners and engagement in this unique program. Thank you, parents, for your dedication in transporting the girls to and from Wagga each day!

Western Riverina Careers Expo

11th June at Leeton High School

Last week our Year 10 students had the opportunity to attend the Western Riverina Careers Expo held at Leeton High School. This was a fantastic day and opportunity for our students to explore and speak directly with all the many careers’ exhibitors, such as industry bodies, employers, tertiary providers, and universities.

Students all came away thinking more about possible careers, tertiary courses, and pathways beyond school. Thank you to our new Year 10 Year Adviser Mr Jake Bailey for his help on the excursion and many words of wisdom and encouragement for our students to seek out information and guidance on the day. To all our students, thank you for your exception manners and engagement with various employers and tertiary providers on the day. It is always a pleasure to take our students on these careers’ excursions.

SAFEWORK Virtual White Card Course

4th & 5th June at Narrandera High School

Recently four of our students were able to undertake their White Card Construction Safety training online in a virtual course. This was a unique experience for our students as well as myself. Aramis, Ruben, Oliver and Nate all worked well and were fully engaged throughout the two half day sessions. I congratulate all four lads on their successful completion of this training and achieving their SafeWork White Card training.

SAFEWORK White Card Construction Course

3rd July at Narrandera High School

We have confirmed the date for the next White Card Construction Safety course this term for 3rd July (the last week of term). Students from Year 9 upwards can undertake this training and must be over the age of 14years old.

We have a list of students on the wait list, so I will be confirming with each student if they are intending to attend this course due to the rules of SafeWork we can only host 20 students in each course.

The course is completely subsidised by the Department of Education and so there is no cost for the course itself. However, the SafeWork Licence Card does have a cost of $30 for each student.

*All students will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier Number to participate. I can assist students to obtain this online but will require them to bring in a photo of their Medicare card to obtain this USI. Or students can obtain this themselves by accessing the following website: https://www.usi.gov.au/providers/create-usi-student

*Students must be at school in the library and ready to commence the training by 8:30am! This is a requirement of SAFEWORK NSW.

Year 12 Careers Pathway Interviews

University Early Entry are open for all Year 12 students.

We have commenced our Year 12 Careers Transition Interviews this term and I encourage all Year 12 students to book in for their careers planning interview with me. These comprehensive interviews take a minimum of two lessons and are tailored to each student to ensure they have a clear plan and information for their transition to post school life.

Students who are looking at university pathways are encouraged to organise their interview as soon as possible so they can have guidance on the various early entry processes offered by each university and how they can respond to the specific requirements of each university and course they aspire to study. If parents would like to attend these meetings, they are welcome to reach out to the careers office to book an appointment after school hours. All parents and guardians are sent a summary of the meetings with their child if they cannot attend in person.
