Stage 5 Agriculture

A big week down at the Farm
Stage 5 Agriculture were very busy getting a paddock ready for sowing down to pastures. We plan to include lucerne as a perennial legume, phalaris as a perennial grass, sub clover and clover as an annual legume and barley as an annual grass. Preparations were focussed on weed control and developing a fine seed bed for the small pasture seeds.
The two new kids on the block were introduced to year 7 and then placed in the paddock with the rest of the flock. After doing mad zoomies around the paddock they settled down, found their mothers and enjoyed the sunshine under the supervision of the year 10 students. They are enjoying their newfound freedom out of the claustrophobic conditions of the shelter shed.
Preparations continue for the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show where the fleeces were classed and tested. All fleece weights and fleece fibre diameter were recorded and fleeces allocated to the appropriate classes.
A special mention to the stars of last weeks Better Home and Gardens on Friday night. The students and the animals both showed what they were made of with their superb performance at this years Sydney Royal Easter Show. This week we have had plenty of positive feedback from participants in the mohair industry as well as the local community.
