State Final of the German Poetry Competition – Griffin Hamilton
The German Poetry Competition is held annually and attracts hundreds of competitors from Years 4 to 9. Heathmont College has a long tradition of fielding entrants who enjoy success at the Regional and State Finals. This year was no different.
Griffin Hamilton, who is studying German at Year 9, has been participating in the competition since primary school. After winning his Regional Final in July, held at Mullauna College, Griffin was invited to compete in the State Final, held at the Austrian Club in Heidelberg West, on Saturday 23rd August. Having attended Bayswater Primary School, which offers a bilingual program, Griffin entered the Open Section, competing with students from across the state who either have a native-speaker background or who have also participated in bilingual programs.
After many hours of memorising and rehearsing his chosen poem, Griffin placed 4th in the State Final and was the only non-native speaker to achieve a place.
We congratulate Griffin on his commitment to language learning and this great achievement!
