From the Boarding Captain

Hi everyone, my name is Chloe Climie and I will be your Boarding Captain for 2025. I have been boarding at Grammar since Year Seven and have enjoyed the many experiences boarding has offer. I am from the small town of Cranbrook where I live and work on a sheep and crop farm. I had attended Cranbrook Primary School ever since Kindy so coming into boarding and a new school at the age of 11 was a massive shock. Living away from home with people I have never met seemed terrifying, though the community that is created in boarding helped me settle in very quickly. Whether I needed help with homesickness, washing or REACH there were many amazing staff and peers to guide and give me assistance.

Over the last few years this community has become my second family, and I am very excited to be leading it next year.

Throughout my time at boarding, I have seen many take the role of Boarding Captain and I aspire to use my influence as a leader to help students have a memorable time in boarding that they will cherish for the rest of their lives. Next year I will have the help of the Boarding Committee to help maintain the positive boarding environment and create events for everyone to enjoy. This committee currently includes Matilda Norrish, Sophie Harris and Mariella Somerscales. I am still working with other houses to allow for more people to join the committee.

At Grammar, boarding is such a unique and special place. Being located between the King and Kalgan Rivers on Menang land we are blessed to learn about the culture of the Indigenous Australians who used this land before us. Close by we also have some of the best beaches in Albany, which I love to go to on rec for a quick swim, a walk or even a surf. I enjoy spending my time outdoors whether it’s to the beach, for a hike or even for a camping trip, I just love being surrounded by nature. I am very passionate about sports especially netball. I also play touch rugby and do rowing but I love to try and play any sport.

As Boarding Captain I would really like to unite all houses to become closer together. I want to run many more friendly rivalry events between houses as well as some combining houses together. This will allow everyone to get to know each other that little bit better and help support each other through the ups and downs of boarding.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of the term and have a safe and enjoyable holidays with successful harvests.
