Welcome to Term 3

It has been another busy and productive start to the semester for our VCE Vocational Major students, with opportunities to explore future career pathways while continuing to build positive learning habits.

Celebrating Attendance and Positive Learning Behaviours

Congratulations to the six VCE VM students who were selected as winners in this term’s Attendance and Learning Behaviour Reward Draw!

Students who achieved 90% or higher attendance and maintained a Learning Behaviour Update (LBU) score of 3.5 or above (out of 4) earned an entry into our spin wheel prize draw. The lucky winners each received a canteen voucher.

Regular attendance and positive learning behaviours are key to success in VCE VM. They help students stay on top of coursework, achieve their learning outcomes and develop the workplace habits that employers value.

Remember: Every student who maintains 90% or higher attendance and achieves an LBU score of 3.5 or above will automatically have their name entered into the reward draw. Keep attending, staying engaged in class and demonstrating positive learning behaviours for your chance to win!

Job Skills Expo 

Our Year 11 and 12 VCE VM students recently attended the Job Skills Expo at Lardner Park, where they explored a wide range of career and training opportunities.

Students had the chance to speak with employers, apprenticeship and traineeship providers, TAFE representatives, universities and industry professionals from a variety of sectors. The expo encouraged students to think about their future pathways, ask questions about employment opportunities, and discover the skills and qualifications needed in different industries.

Market Day

Our annual VCE VM Market Day will be held on Thursday 17 September alongside the Kurnai College Parent-Teacher Conversations.

Students have been busy designing and producing a range of products in their Elective classes, which will be available for purchase on the day. Market Day provides students with a valuable opportunity to develop and demonstrate their enterprise, teamwork, customer service and communication skills in a real-world setting.

All VCE VM students are required to attend and participate in Market Day as it forms a major part of PD and WRS Outcome assessment. The market will operate from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm, and students are expected to assist with setting up, selling products, engaging with customers and packing up at the conclusion of the event.

We encourage families attending Parent-Teacher Interviews to visit the Market Day stalls and support our students' hard work.

Looking Ahead

As we move further into Term 3, students are encouraged to remain focused on completing their Learning and Outcome Tasks by the required deadlines. If additional support is needed, students should speak with their teachers early so that strategies can be put in place to help them succeed.

All VCE VM students should now have a Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placement organised. Students who have not yet secured a placement are expected to attend school on their scheduled placement day so that staff can provide support with finding an employer, securing a placement.  Attending school on these days is an important step towards securing a placement and meeting VCE VM requirements.

Students attending Structured Workplace Learning should continue to demonstrate professionalism by arriving on time, communicating effectively with their employer, and completing their workplace timesheets and reflection tasks promptly. These documents form an important part of each student’s learning portfolio.  Reports and timesheets from last term should be in portfolios and placement reflections should be submitted to WRS teachers.

Maintaining strong attendance at both school and work placement remains one of the most important factors in achieving success in VCE Vocational Major. We encourage all students to continue building positive routines and making the most of the opportunities available to them.
