Campus Principal

Welcome to Term 3. I hope all students and families enjoyed a well-earned break and have returned refreshed for what promises to be an exciting and productive term.

This week we welcomed families and students transitioning into senior studies at our Senior Pathways Information Evening. The evening provided an opportunity to explore the range of programs available, tour the campus, meet subject teachers and learn about the support services available to help students succeed through their senior years and transition into further study, training and employment. We sincerely appreciate the continued support of our current families who recommend Kurnai College to others, helping us grow our student numbers and expand the opportunities available to all students.

Last week, the University Campus celebrated NAIDOC with a wonderful BBQ lunch, Indigenous games and musical performances. Thank you to Marina Cooper and the staff team who organised the event, and to the students who contributed through catering, the Acknowledgement of Country, performances and assisting throughout the day. We are also incredibly proud to congratulate Year 11 student Jack on receiving a prestigious Marrung Education Scholarship. With only 30 scholarships awarded across Victoria each year, this is a significant achievement that recognises Jack’s leadership, commitment to supporting others and strong community connections.

For our senior students, this is an important time of year. Our Year 12 students are entering the final stages of their secondary education, while Year 11 students begin preparing for their final year. Across all pathways, we encourage students to remain focused, attend regularly, communicate with their teachers and make the most of every opportunity available.

Our VCE students are preparing for practice examinations later this term, providing valuable experience ahead of the VCAA examinations. Revision lectures are also available over the term break to support students with the final push toward exams. 

Our VCE Vocational Major students have had a busy start to Term 3, attending the Job Skills Expo to explore future career opportunities and celebrating students recognised through our Attendance and Learning Behaviour Reward Draw. We also look forward to our VCE VM Market Day later this term, where students will showcase their enterprise and teamwork skills.

Our VPC and Year 10 Pathways students continue to participate in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences, including First Aid training and the Hazelwood Community Projects. Their work constructing a yarning circle and fire pit demonstrates practical skills while strengthening connections to Gunaikurnai Country.

We also celebrate the achievements of students beyond the classroom, including Harry Forbes’ participation in the Australian National SpeedCubing Championships. Congratulations also to our senior boys’ soccer team who have qualified for the state finals later this term, a great effort so far and we wish them all the best in the finals.

As we move through Term 3, I encourage all students to maintain a healthy balance between learning, commitments and wellbeing. Thank you to our dedicated staff, supportive families and students for the positive start to the term. I look forward to celebrating many more achievements in the weeks ahead.
