Gardening with Jo
"Recycling" is the main topic this term for Emma's class in gardening. There are many "re" words the students have come up with to consider, for example: rethink, reuse, reorganize, recycle, reduce, repurpose, refrain, refuse.
They have been brain storming ideas from the above areas and thinking about how to reduce waste going to land fill and what changes they can make to help this at school and at home.
The students have repurposed some items into plant containers you can see some of them attached to the fence behind the transportable building and in the gym veggie garden.
PE with Troy
Years 3 and Upwards – Table Tennis
Students in Years 3 and up have begun their table tennis units. During these sessions, they are learning about the rules, different types of shots, and strategies through modified game play. As part of the program, students will be placed in teams and introduced to the format of social competitions. They will have the opportunity to umpire, score, and participate in both singles and doubles matches, developing not only their playing skills, but also their understanding of fair play and teamwork.
Currently, we have three tables available for use. If anyone in our school community has a spare table tennis table that we could borrow, it would be greatly appreciated, as this would help us maximise student participation.
Early Years – Fundamental Movement Skills
Our early years students have been focusing on practising their fundamental movement skills. They have been working on throwing and catching, with our youngest learners using larger equipment and our Year 2 students progressing to smaller tennis balls for added challenge. To support self-reflection and peer feedback, students have been filming each other during these activities to identify their strengths and areas for improvement.
We have now moved on to developing kicking skills, using a range of equipment such as footballs, soccer balls, and other suitable objects to keep activities engaging and varied.

Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All
Science Week has been a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore the amazing life of seeds and discover just how important they are in creating growth, change and new life in our world.
In the Junior Years, students headed off on an adventure around our school grounds in search of seeds. They had the exciting opportunity to look closely at and handle a real sunflower, carefully pulling out the seeds and planting them around our school. Students discussed what seeds need to grow and worked together to find sunny spots where their new plants would have the best chance to thrive. Our learning also extended beyond seeds and plants to the importance of caring for our land. Students took the time to tidy garden areas, clear away weeds and make space for new flowers and plants to grow. These hands-on experiences helped students understand that looking after our environment is something we can all contribute to.
In the Upper Primary, students explored the important role of cultural burning and how First Nations peoples use fire as a tool to care for Country. We discussed how cultural burning can support regeneration, encourage new growth and help maintain healthy ecosystems. It was a valuable opportunity for students to think about the deep knowledge and connection to Country that has been passed down through generations.
Across the whole school, we have also been working collaboratively on a very special piece of artwork using beans, seeds and peas. It has been wonderful to see students working together, sharing ideas and putting so much care and effort into creating something as a school community. Our collaborative artwork is really starting to come together, and it is something that every student should feel very proud of.
Science Week has reminded us that, just like a tiny seed, small actions can lead to something wonderful. Through curiosity, teamwork and care for our environment, our students are helping our school community grow.

HASS with Izzie
This term in HASS the upper and middle primary students have been learning about Civics and Citizenship. We have had some great discussions about elections, democracy, voting, and how the different levels of government work. We have also been exploring how we can contribute to our local and wider communities and be active and informed citizens. Students have been building their research and note-taking skills in order to become more independent when finding out the answers to questions. In the next few weeks, students will be beginning to conduct independent research and planning, including finding an issue they feel passionate about and planning for meaningful change.
In the junior primary, students have been exploring History, and looking at how daily life has changed over time. We have had a great time talking about what school was like in the past compared to now- things are very different! Students have enjoyed using some artefacts from the past, including a typewriter and chalk. They have also been exploring how we collect and record knowledge about the past, including conducting interviews to find information. To finalise this learning, students will be comparing an object from the past with one from the present, and also will have a chance to make some ‘artefacts’ from the past.
Indonesian with Ibu Susan
In Indonesian the younger classes have been busy creating sentences around our story Saya melihat (I can see). They have used new and known words to practise Indonesian word order.
The new reception group has been learning numbers to ten and basic greetings via stories and songs as well as looking at animals that live in Indonesia.
The older groups have been discussing their hobbies and using the key words in various texts.
As we recently celebrated World Orangutan Day all students have been learning about these beautiful apes. The older groups are creating quizzes to share later in the term, and the year 3/4 students are making posters.
