Intermediate Teams Compete Hard in Wodonga
Our Intermediate Basketballers hit the courts yesterday at the Wodonga Sports & Leisure Centre, with both teams winning matches in the Upper Hume tournament despite missing key players to injury.
The Girls, missing two of their prime players in Victorian Talent Academy Squad Netballers Milly O'Kane and Matilda Taylor, picked up a thrilling win against Wodonga Senior Secondary College (13-9), but were outgunned by the always-powerful Catholic College Wodonga (10-57) who went on to win the Final by 19 points. They then dropped their Pool match 16-30 to finish with a 1-2 record for the day.
Top scorers were Pieper Gottschling and Georgia Meggs, with Jada Ryan said to be the star defender along with the Driscoll sisters (Stevie and Jedda).
The Boys, missing their star Wangaratta Warriors Basketballer Jack Ford, were competitive in their Pool matches against Catholic College Wodonga and Grace Christian College, but went down in each against the much larger opposition. They however got a win in their playoff match against the Felltimber campus of Wodonga Middle Years College.
Year 10s Oscar Benson, Lachie Pensak and Roy Dunstan, and Year 9s Kayden Vozlic and Lionel Huggins all scored 10+ points across the carnival in an even scoring performance. Huggins hit two long-range 3 pointers, and Benson and Pensak were said to be outstanding defenders as well, hustling and coming up with some big blocks.
Thanks to our players for again representing the school in a terrific manner, our staff Alex Johnson and Christine Watson for coaching the teams, and the many student helpers for contributing to another great day of Interschool Sport.
Our Sport Centre continues to be buzzing every Lunchtime with our Sport teams either training or trying out for various teams daily, and we look forward to reporting on this Friday's Year 7 Volleyball and next Wednesday's Year 8 Basketball, both trips to Wodonga.
